The Counted Breath
Let's go back to the basics. This week we will keep it simple and focus on counting our breath as we inhale and exhale. This form of breath control, known in Sanskrit as "sama vritti," is an easy yet powerful form of pranayama (breath control).
In the meditation we will start by breathing in to the count of three and breathing out to the count of six. By extending our exhales to be twice as long as our inhales we activate our parasympathetic nervous system which is known as the cool down response. Your body will become relaxed and your mind will become still.
